• To support and protect the character, status, and interests of the profession of the
  land surveyor generally, and particularly of land surveyors practicing in the Island of Jamaica.
  
  

• To promote honourable practice, to repress malpractice, to settle disputed points of
  practice, and to decide all questions of professional usage or courtesy between and amongst land surveyors in Jamaica.

• To consider all questions affecting the interests of the said profession, and if necessary, to petition the government and legislature of Jamaica, and other persons and bodies, to promote deputations in relation thereto, and to procure any changes of Law of practice,
  and the promotion or improvement in the principles and methods of surveying.
  
  

• To encourage the study of Surveying by Student Surveyors.

The Commissioned Land Surveyors Practice is guided by the following tenets

• Always acting with honesty and integrity, and within the law.
  

• Meeting all your obligations to your clients, both contractual and implied.
• Safeguarding client funds and other assets.
• Always giving best advice.
• Always acting in the best interest of your client as long as this is not contrary to public interest.
• Ensuring that the risk of conflicting interests is minimized and, where such conflict does unavoidably arise, either taking action to ensure that it is eliminated or seeing that it only continues with the approval of all concerned.
• Safeguarding your clients confidentiality.
• Declining to take personal advantage of confidential information.
• Not accepting instructions when, in your professional judgment, the client has no need of your professional services
• Not accepting instructions when you are aware that the nature of the work involved is not within your competence.
• Not issuing information to or concerning clients, fellow professionals or the public which is misleading or inaccurate.
• Ensuring that your charges are fair and that the method of calculating them is open.
• Not to act for your client, or employer, in professional matters otherwise than as a faithful agent or trustee, or to accept any remuneration other than your stated recompense for services rendered.
• Not to attempt to injure falsely or maliciously directly or indirectly, the professional reputation, prospect or business of anyone.
• Not to attempt to supplant a fellow practitioner after definite steps have been taken towards his employment.
• Not to compete with a fellow practitioner for employment by the use of unethical practices.
• Not to review the work of a fellow practitioner for the same client, except with the
  knowledge of such practitioner unless the connection of such practitioner with the work
  has been terminated.
• Not to advertise in self-laudatory language or any other manner derogatory to the dignity of the profession.
• Not to attempt to practice in any professional field in which you are not proficient.
